Controller Jobs in Connecticut
A Controller, also known as a Financial Controller, is a senior executive who manages the accounting activities within a company. They oversee all financial functions including accounting, budget, credit, insurance, tax, and treasury. They are responsible for the preparation of financial reports, ensure that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards, and design and monitor internal control systems. Controllers often serve as the chief accounting officer (CAO) and are responsible for the production of financial reports that summarize and forecast the organization's financial position, such as income statements, balance sheets, and analyses of future earnings or expenses.
A Controller should possess a high level of competency in accounting principles and procedures, strong leadership skills, and an ability to manage and oversee a team. They should have strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is required, with many companies preferring a Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation. Prior to becoming a Controller, a professional may have job roles such as Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, or Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
