Accounts Payable Specialist (Part-Time) (Temporary 5-6 months) Location: Detroit, MI (On-site) Duration: Through Fall 2026 (subject to grant funding timeline) About the Opportunity Join a mission-driven, community-focused nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to youth programming across the region. This role supports a large-scale, grant-funded initiative that provides funding to schools, after-school programs, and community organizations serving tens of thousands of students. Due to significant growth in program participation, the organization is seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Payable Specialist to help manage high-volume vendor transactions and ensure timely, accurate financial operations. Key Responsibilities Process, verify, and pay vendor invoices accurately and on time in a high-volume environment Match invoices with purchase orders or contracts and ensure proper approvals are obtained Maintain accurate vendor records, including payment details, tax documentation, and contact information Enter invoices into the accounting system and assist with check runs and ACH payments Investigate and resolve invoice discrepancies, missing approvals, or returned payments Perform monthly and quarterly reconciliations for accounts payable and employee advances Prepare journal entries related to expense reclassifications and accruals Monitor contract spend and track invoice submission timelines Communicate with internal teams and external partners regarding payment inquiries Assist with accounting process improvements and other department projects as needed Required Qualifications 2-5 years of hands-on Accounts Payable experience (minimum 2 years required) Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required) Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, formulas) Proven ability to manage high-volume workloads (10+ invoices per day) Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to identify discrepancies and escalate issues appropriately Excellent communication skills with both internal stakeholders and external vendors Self-motivated and reliable (professional references required) Commitment to supporting community-focused, mission-driven work What You'll Bring A proactive, solution-oriented approach to problem-solving Flexibility in a fast-paced, evolving environment An appreciation for collaborative, team-based work culture Work Environment This role is fully on-site in a vibrant downtown office setting featuring an open-concept layout, natural light, and a highly collaborative atmosphere. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Detroit, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
