About the Role We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Payable Clerk to support a high-impact, grant-funded initiative focused on expanding access to youth enrichment programs. This role will play a key part in managing a significant increase in program activity, supporting tens of thousands of students through partnerships with schools, after-school programs, and community organizations. This position is ideal for someone who is both mission-driven and experienced in high-volume accounts payable environments, particularly within nonprofit or grant-based settings. Key Responsibilities Prepare, review, and process vendor invoices for goods and services in a timely and accurate manner Match invoices to purchase orders or executed contracts and verify proper approvals Ensure accurate GL coding and documentation for all transactions Maintain vendor records, including EFT details, W-9s, and 1099 information Enter invoices into accounting systems and process payments via checks and ACH Assist with check runs, ACH processing, and positive pay uploads Research and resolve discrepancies, missing approvals, or invoice issues Perform monthly and quarterly reconciliations (AP and employee advances) Record journal entries, including accruals and reclasses (e.g., credit card expenses) Track vendor contract spend and ensure timely invoicing Support internal teams and vendors with payment inquiries Monitor invoice activity to ensure proper expense recognition and reporting Assist with process improvements and accounting modernization efforts Handle incoming mail and resolve returned payments Qualifications (Required) 2-5 years of hands-on Accounts Payable experience Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, intermediate formulas) Experience working in high-volume AP environments (10+ invoices/day minimum) Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to identify discrepancies and resolve issues independently Excellent communication skills with both internal teams and external vendors Proven reliability and ability to work in a structured, fast-paced environment Preferred Qualifications Experience in nonprofit or grant-based accounting environments Familiarity with Financial Edge or similar systems Experience tracking restricted funds or contract-based spending Background supporting large-scale community or social service programs What We're Looking For Mission-driven individuals passionate about community impact and service Strong sense of accountability and ownership Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines A collaborative team player who thrives in an inclusive, supportive environment Work Environment This role is based in a vibrant, collaborative office setting in downtown Detroit, featuring: Open-concept workspace with natural light and city views Team-oriented, positive atmosphere focused on support and encouragement A culture centered on giving back and community engagement Why Join?
