The position: We are looking for a controller to join our team! This role is perfect for someone who can serve as a senior leader and subject matter expert on all accounting and financial management functions. The role provides oversight and strategic direction for financial reporting and auditing, compliance, treasury management, and all internal financial controls and processes.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelors degree in accounting or a related field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is required
  • Eight years of progressive accounting or financial management experience
    1. Including six years in a management or supervisory capacity
    2. Additional years of progressive accounting or financial management experience may be considered in lieu of the six years management or supervisory capacity

    What will you do?

    1. Provide senior level experience and oversight of related business functions and activities to ensure accounting and reporting compliance for financial management matters
    2. Interpret and apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Governmental Accounting Standards Board standards, and other regulatory accounting requirements for management and staff to ensure proper accounting treatment, practices, and reporting in alignment with applicable laws and regulations
    3. Establish and maintain effective internal quality controls over financial resources, systems, and operations, including proper authorization, processing, and recording of financial transactions
    4. Manage the preparation and accounting for required annual audits conducted by external auditors, including the Annual Comprehensive Financial Review, Housing and Urban Development Financial Data Schedule, and State Audit
    5. Ensure strong internal controls and financial integrity:
    6. Maintain proper segregation of duties and authorization controls
    7. Conduct periodic internal control reviews and risk assessments
    8. Develop and update financial policies and procedures
    9. Strengthen measures to prevent fraud, waste, and abuse
    10. Oversee treasury functions and financial condition analyses:
    11. Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and fund balances across programs
    12. Manage banking transactions, reconciliations, and cash management controls
    13. Analyze financial conditions and prepare reports on financial health and risk indicators
    14. Ensure compliance with restricted fund requirements and grant conditions
    15. Develop, document, and maintain accounting policy and procedure manuals
    16. Provide training and technical guidance to finance staff and program managers on financial compliance requirements, internal controls, and proper accounting practices
    17. Ensure the accuracy and reliability of financial systems and reporting tools
    18. Support system improvements and the implementation of accounting controls with SHAs enterprise resource planning system
