This is not a desk-bound accounting role. Success here requires genuine partnership with operations leadership and active engagement with the realities of a 24/7 EMS organization.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We're looking for a Controller to lead our accounting function, ensure financial accuracy, and provide clear visibility into company performance. You'll serve as a strategic financial partner to executive leadership and operations - guiding decisions through accurate reporting, operational insight, and financial forecasting.

This role is empowered to improve processes, strengthen controls, and modernize our financial reporting systems. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, operationally disciplined, and comfortable in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Financial reporting & close - Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close (target: <15 days).="" prepare="" accurate="" p&l,="" balance="" sheet,="" and="" cash="" flow="" reports="" that="" are="">
  • Billing oversight - Reconcile third-party billing reports against actual cash receipts. Monitor collection rates, adjustments, write-offs, and billing fees. Evaluate and make recommendations on the third-party billing relationship.
  • Cash flow management - Monitor daily/weekly cash position; forecast short- and long-term needs; ensure liquidity for payroll, operations, and growth.
  • Fleet & asset accounting - Oversee accounting for our ambulance fleet and medical equipment, including depreciation schedules and capital expenditure planning.
  • Operational & KPI reporting - Build reporting that connects operational metrics (units, runs, staffing) to financial outcomes. Analyze labor costs, unit utilization, and departmental margins.
  • Accounting operations - Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, and payroll accounting via ADP Workforce Now and QuickBooks Enterprise. Manage WA PFML, L&I, and cares fund compliance.
  • Controls & process improvement - Establish strong financial controls and improve systems and reporting processes.
  • Leadership - Manage and develop accounting staff; communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
