Position Overview Jacobs Real Estate Advisors is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations for a growing portfolio of commercial real estate properties. This is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of the accounting department, building and developing a high-performing team, and ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting across multiple properties. Key Responsibilities Lead and oversee all accounting department operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, and month-end close processes. Manage, mentor, and develop the accounting team - delegating responsibilities, reviewing work product, and continuously improving departmental workflows and efficiency. Supervise full-cycle accounts payable processing and tenant billing across multiple commercial properties. Oversee accounts receivable functions, including collections, tenant ledger management, and CAM reconciliations. Review payroll processing for accuracy and ensure payroll-related reporting and cost allocations are properly recorded. Review and finalize monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring all reporting deadlines are consistently met. Prepare annual operating budgets and actively monitor financial performance against forecasts throughout the year. Assist with audits, tax preparation, regulatory compliance requirements, and cash flow management across the portfolio. Identify and implement process improvements and technology solutions to increase scalability, efficiency, and overall department performance. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with prior exposure to real estate or commercial property accounting preferred. Demonstrated experience managing an accounting team and overseeing full department operations. Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis. Preferred Experience with property management and accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, AppFolio). Familiarity with CAM reconciliations and NNN lease structures.
