Large law firm seeks a Payroll Specialist in Atlanta or the Washington, DC area. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for supporting payroll operations across the organization, ensuring accurate and compliant processing of employee compensation. This role partners closely with Accounting & Finance, Human Resources, and other departments to maintain payroll integrity, support reporting needs, and ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations. Responsibilities: Support payroll operations and internal stakeholders with day-to-day payroll and accounting activities. Compile, audit, and process payroll data, including semi-monthly payroll, merit increases, and bonus compensation. Verify employee work hours and leave balances; calculate and process deductions such as benefits and taxes. Maintain accurate and up-to-date payroll records for all employees. Respond to employee inquiries related to payroll and compensation. Develop, organize, and maintain payroll procedures and related policies. Prepare, review, and analyze internal payroll and management reports; document payroll transactions as required. Prepare payroll-related general ledger entries for posting. Collaborate with Accounting & Finance on bank reconciliations and resolution of outstanding items. Assist with annual audits, including compiling requested documentation and responding to inquiries. Serve as liaison with payroll vendors for tax, system, or processing-related matters. Support additional payroll-related projects and initiatives as needed. Qualifications : Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required. 3-5 years of experience in payroll processing within an accounting and/or human resources environment; experience in professional services or multi-location organizations preferred. Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll tax regulations (federal, state, and local), including wage and hour laws. Experience preparing and reconciling general ledger entries. Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Outlook and advanced Excel); experience with databases and systems such as ADP or UKG is a plus. Compensation Salary is commensurate with experience and geographic location. The anticipated salary range for this position is $65,000 - $103,000 .
