Primary Function: The job of Specialist, Payroll is done for the purpose/s of providing support to department activities with specific responsibility for ensuring the accuracy of preliminary and final payroll reports, time sheets, spreadsheets, and funds distribution; responding to inquiries and/or requests for data and/or reports; providing timely and accurate payroll production.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Educational Level:
High School diploma or GED
2. Requirements:
Additional testing for selected candidates may be required.
3. Experience:
Minimum of one year payroll experience or equivalent preferred.

5. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Written and oral communication; Adapts to changing work priorities; ability to problem solve; proficient in Microsoft Excel; accurately perform mathematical calculations; online data entry skills, 10-key by touch; excellent customer services skills
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1.
Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
2.
Assists auditors for the purpose of providing supporting documentation and/or information on internal process that is required for audit.
3.
Assists in the preparation of a variety of payroll related documents (e.g., retirement, sick leave certification, adjustments to payroll, tax forms, wage statements, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
4.
Authorizes monthly payments to retirement companies for the purpose of maintaining employee’s contributions.
5.
Compiles statistical and payroll data from a variety of sources (e.g., time sheets/payroll, salary adjustments, tax deposits, etc.) for the purpose of providing summaries to other personnel, and/or ensuring compliance with established guidelines.
6.
Coordinates the payroll process with other departments and sites for the purpose of delivering services in compliance with established guidelines.
7.
Informs other staff and/or outside parties regarding procedural requirements for the purpose of processing transactions.
8.
Maintains a wide variety of payroll information for the purpose of ensuring the availability of documentation and compliance with established policies and regulatory guidelines.
9.
Monitors assigned payroll activities and/or program components for the purpose of ensuring compliance with established financial, legal and/or administrative requirements.
10.
Processes a wide variety of payroll documents and materials (e.g., time sheets, withholding information, employee contributions, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties.
11.
Reconciles payroll account balances (e.g., time sheets, direct deposits, extra pay and retirement reports, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining accurate account balances and complying with established guidelines.
12.
Researches discrepancies of payroll information and/or documentation (e.g., time sheets, leave time, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and adherence to procedures prior to processing.
13.
Responds to inquiries regarding payroll procedures (e.g., tax shelter contributions, direct deposits, confirmation of creditable service, accrued leave balance, etc.) for the purpose of providing necessary information for making decisions, assisting employees, taking appropriate action and/or complying with established fiscal guidelines.
14.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the district.
