POSITION DESCRIPTION
The City of Fresno is currently recruiting for an Accounting Technician. Under general supervision, the incumbent performs para-professional/technical accounting work, interprets and processes financial data, records and executes transactions and processes customer in-person and over the phone payments, and resolves complex technical accounting problems applying established advanced accounting practices. Incumbents may prepare complex grant invoices, revenue to expense grant reconciliation and reports which require the review of complex source documents and thorough familiarity of grant policies, procedures, and terminology to obtain the necessary data.
One vacancy exists in the Planning and Development Department. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of three (3) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period for up to a maximum of two years at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligible list may be limited to three (3) months.
THE REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify for the examination and does not assure a place on the eligibility list:
Completion of 12 units of accredited college or university course work in accounting.
A COPY OF DEGREE OR COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE UPLOADED AND INCLUDED IN YOUR ON-LINE APPLICATION FOR VERIFICATION OF REQUIREMENT.
The selected eligible candidates certified will be required to successfully pass a department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint prior to employment with the City of Fresno.
THE SELECTION PROCESS
The examination process may consist of the following:
Written Examination: 100%: A job related written examination may be administered which may test a candidate's knowledge of principles and practices utilized in government accounting/bookkeeping, preparation/reconciliation of financial reports, office practices/procedures, knowledge of Word and Excel programs, ability utilized in resolving complex technical accounting problems, interpreting and processing financial data, records and transactions, payroll practices/concepts, performing mathematical calculations and applying skills in judgment/interpersonal relations. Candidates must achieve a passing score to qualify for the eligible list.
The written examination has been tentatively scheduled for the week of: June 29, 2026.
