The Town of Babylon is seeking a highly experienced and strategic financial professional to serve as Town Comptroller. Reporting directly to the Town Supervisor, the Comptroller is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of one of Long Islands largest and most dynamic municipalities. This position plays a critical leadership role in ensuring fiscal integrity, transparency, and long-term financial planning to support the Towns operations, capital initiatives, and public services. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in municipal finance, demonstrate sound judgment, and possess the ability to manage complex financial systems while maintaining public trust.

Key Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee all fiscal affairs of the Town, including budgeting, accounting, auditing, and financial reporting
- Maintain custody and control of all Town funds, including bank accounts and financial records
- Review, audit, and authorize payment of all claims and vouchers in accordance with applicable laws and policies
- Establish, implement, and monitor internal financial controls to ensure accountability and compliance
- Oversee revenue management, including proper allocation of all incoming funds to appropriate accounts
- Conduct audits of Town departments and agencies to ensure fiscal responsibility and operational efficiency
- Manage municipal investments in accordance with Town policies to optimize returns while safeguarding public funds
- Administer all bonding activities and coordinate with financial advisors, auditors, and rating agencies
- Oversee insurance coverage for Town assets, personnel, and operations to ensure adequate risk management
- Provide financial analysis, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to the Town Supervisor and Town Board
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, including New York State financial regulations
- Promote transparency and maintain effective working relationships with Town officials, departments, and the public
While this is an exempt position, the Town of Babylon seeks candidates with:
- Extensive experience in municipal finance, public administration, or governmental accounting
- Strong knowledge of New York State laws, codes, and regulations governing municipal finance
- Proven leadership experience managing financial operations in a complex organization
- Experience with budgeting, auditing, and internal control systems
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly present financial information to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Professional certifications such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CGFO (Certified Government Finance Officer) are highly desirable
