Summary:

We are seeking a Corporate Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting principles, financial analysis, and reporting, with a specific focus on corporate accounting within the real estate industry. The candidate will have an open mind with respect to solving problems and be a team player who communicates well and pro-actively. Responsibilities:

General Ledger Management:

  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure all transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled (including but not limited to, coding invoices, journal entries, bank reconciliations, accruals, depreciation, etc.).
  • Review and analyze account balances, including accruals, prepayments, and provisions.
  • Review management fee, chargeback and other billings for accuracy and completion.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the company.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and relevant accounting standards.
  • Assist in the preparation of internal management reports and presentations for stakeholders.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Collaborate with management to develop annual budgets and long-term financial forecasts.
  • Monitor actual financial performance against budgeted targets and provide variance analysis.
  • Identify trends and provide insights to support decision-making processes.

Tax Compliance:

  • Sales tax (GST) preparation and monthly filing.
  • Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations that may impact the company's financial position

Financial Analysis:

  • Conduct ad hoc financial analysis to support strategic initiatives and business decisions.

Audit Support:

  • Coordinate and support external audits by providing requested documentation and explanations.
  • Address audit inquiries and implement recommendations to strengthen internal controls.
  • Ensure compliance with audit requirements and deadlines.

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; or comparable industry experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with holding companies and market securities.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Yardi) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
