Director of Finance
for St. Boniface in Elgin, St. Bonaventure in Raeville, St. John the Baptist in Petersburg and Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (St. Francis of Assisi in Neligh, St. Theresa’s of Avila in Clearwater, St. John the Baptist in Deloit, St. Peter de Alcantara in Ewing, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Tilden)
Position Type: Full-time, On-site
Start Date: Immediate
Reports to: Pastor and Director of Operations
General Description: Responsible for preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for decision making, management, and oversight of accounting duties for our Catholic Parishes and school system.
Controller:
- Maintains accounting and finance related functions for Parish and school
- Monitors cash flow, monitors expenses/adjusts as needed, manages A/P and A/R functions, establishes and monitors the use of internal controls.
- Prepares financial statements, reports information to Finance Committee and others as required.
- Ensures payroll is processed for Parish and School staff.
- Leads budgeting process.
Essential Job Functions:
- Review payments received; prepare and record bank deposits
- Manage accounts payable
- Review and reconcile accounts, including bank statements, credit card statements, investment accounts and general ledger
- Oversight of the preparation of bills/invoices and allocate expenses
- Maintain accurate records of financial transactions
- Prepare monthly financial statements, report financial results
- Manage online giving database
- Oversight of tithing and donations into parish database
- Send year end donation records and other necessary acknowledgements to donors
- Assist the Pastor, Director of Operations and staff in the preparation of the budget and monthly forecasts
- Provide oversight to resolving accounting issues, refining processes and making system improvements
- Ability to attend evening meetings as required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Practicing Catholic desired but not required*
- Must have utmost integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Self-starter with the ability to handle multiple, competing priorities, highly adaptable
- Effective communication skills, effective listener
- Outstanding organizational and accounting skills, attentive to details
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Pastor, parish staff and committees
- Highly skilled in accounting software (Microsoft Office, Excel, QuickBooks), competence working with technology
- Ability to adhere to all Parish policies and procedures
- Safe Environment Training certification; must be obtained within 30 days of hire
Education and Experience
- Business and accounting experience helpful
- Associate’s degree or greater in accounting or finance preferred
- Three to five years of financial and accounting experience preferred

In conjunction with the Pastor and other parish leaders, provides oversight to Parish projects and initiatives (capital campaign, facility upgrades/projects, parish programming, etc.)
This position is on-site, in-person, and located in the main parish office in Petersburg, Nebraska.
