A Financial Analyst in the accounting industry conducts financial forecasting, reporting, and operational metrics tracking. They analyze financial data and create financial models for decision support. Their responsibilities also include improving financial status by analyzing results, monitoring variances, identifying trends and recommending actions to management. They also guide the cost analysis process by establishing and enforcing policies and procedures, provide analysis of trends and forecasts and recommend actions for optimization.

To become a Financial Analyst, one should possess strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of financial software and databases, and awareness of economic and business trends are also important. A bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field is required. But, additional certifications like Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) can boost career prospects. Prior to becoming a Financial Analyst, a person may have roles such as an Accountant, Financial Auditor, or Financial Associate.
