The Chief Financial & Operations Officer (CFOO) is a critical member of Shelter House's Executive Management Team that will oversee financial transactions along with the operational functions such as facilities, IT, and administrative services to ensure they align with the organization's goals and operate efficiently. This broader scope enables the CFOO to help streamline processes, manage risk, and support program delivery by ensuring operational infrastructure is both sustainable and responsive to evolving needs. The CFOO is responsible for developing and managing financial strategies, ensuring compliance with complex funding requirements, and producing accurate, transparent financial reporting for stakeholders such as boards, donors, and government agencies. This position often involves balancing limited resources across multiple programs, anticipating and planning financial risks, and working closely with executive leadership to align budgeting and forecasting with the organization's strategic goals. Teaming with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Executive Strategist, and Chief Program Officer, the CFOO plays a critical role in maximizing return on resources by safeguarding the organization's financial health and credibility, and operational effectiveness - both of which are essential for sustaining impact and building trust within the community it serves.

How you will contribute:
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee financial management, business operations, with an eye to operational efficiency and optimal use of resources. Responsibilities of the CFOO fall into the following key areas:
Finance
Oversee annual budgets, forecasts, and multi-year financial plans aligned with the organization's strategic goals
Prepare, present, and interpret timely financial statements and reports for the executive team and board of directors
Assist with the annual budgeting process in collaboration with Budget Officer and department heads
Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable and reconciliations
Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Lead annual audit preparation and serve as primary liaison with external auditors
Monitor and support grant and contract financial management, including budgeting, reporting, and allowable expense tracking
Monitor cash flow, investments, and fund balances to maintain the organization's financial health
Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal, state, and grantor requirements, including audits and tax filings
Evaluate and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets
Develop and maintain positive rapport with all departments to ensure financial goals are met
Business Operations
Ensure compliance with all required business licensing, taxes, and applicable regulations
Establish internal policies and practices that support operational efficiency and effective use of resources
Oversee the management of assets, equipment, technology, and company leased facilities
Develop and implement strategies to identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks
Oversee the use of third-party vendors, to include soliciting quotes for service, determining scope of work, and evaluating cost proposals
Leadership & Management
Collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Executive Strategist, and Chief Program Officer to set and drive organizational vision, track progress toward organization-wide goals, and drive the organization's work
Increase communication and collaboration between Finance, People & Culture, and Operations departments; develop a team culture in which goals are shared
Represent Shelter House Executive Leadership by building and maintaining trusting relationships with Shelter House staff and key customers, partners, and external stakeholders
Implement business strategies and plans that align with the short- and long-term objectives developed in tandem with the CEO, Chief Executive Strategist and Chief Program Officer
Exemplify the Shelter House core values: Inclusivity, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Empowerment

Requirements
Required:
A minimum of 8 years of professional experience, with 5+ years of specific experience leading through growth, infrastructure building and/or change management
At least 5 years of management experience
Proven ability to manage teams, support cross-functional collaboration, and set clear goals
Demonstrated experience in business functions such as Finance and Operations
Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities
Excellent interpersonal skills
Aptitude in strategic thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving
A bachelor's degree or commensurate experience in business administration, human services, or a related field
Valid Driver's License
Willingness to work evenings and weekends when needed
Preferred:
A master's degree in business administration or a related field, or commensurate professional experience and/or credentials
Experience leading all or almost all internal administrative aspects of an organization, including finance and operations
Physical Requirements:
Annual TB Test is required
Ability to sit or stand for long periods
Ability to lift items weighing 10-20 pounds
