PRIMARY FUNCTION/RESPONSIBILTY
The Director of Accounting is responsible for coordinating and supervising the day-to-day operations of Accounts Payable, Payroll, Corporate Credit Card Management, and Travel functions. This position ensures the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger, supports the monthly and year-end close processes, and oversees the maintenance of the fixed asset system, capital expenditure tracking, and variance analysis reporting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Administer Sage software and ensure maintenance of reports.
- Validate cash disbursements, including reviewing check amounts against invoices.
- Initiate ACH and wire transfers for CFO or authorized signer approval.
- Record general deposits and credit entries in the general ledger.
- Review ledger accounts for accuracy and make necessary corrections.
- Support the annual audit process by preparing documentation, gathering samples, and assisting with year-end closing entries.
- Verify employee benefit invoices for accuracy of coverage and cost allocations.
- Approve bi-weekly payroll
- Ensure confidentiality and protection of sensitive financial information.
- Maintain and enforce internal control systems to uphold financial security.
- Ensure accounting operations meet organizational standards by contributing financial insights to strategic planning and performance reviews, identifying and implementing productivity and quality improvements.
- Stay current with professional knowledge through training, industry publications, networking, and participation in relevant organizations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the organization’s mission and objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Business with a Major in Accounting.
- 10 years’ experience in accounting.
- 3 years’ experience with Sage Intacct Software
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.
- 5 years’ experience working in non-profit environment
Certifications/Licenses/Registrations:
- Valid Texas Driver’s License, good driving record, ability to provide own transportation and proof of current automobile insurance.
- Pending trainings as required by SJRC Texas/Belong.
- Pending license as required by SJRC Texas/Belong.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must have the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Must have the ability to give and receive verbal and written instructions (with or without hearing aids).
- Must have the ability to read fine print, have sustained vision, and peripheral vision (with or without glasses).
- Environment requires dexterity to remain calm and adapt to fast paced and emotional environments consisting of children with moderate to severe emotional and psychological needs.
Work Environment
- Work from home position but must live close enough to meet with CFO in person regularly.
