Staff Accountant Job Description This Staff Accountant position supports a lean, growing organization by owning core month-end close activities, journal entries, reconciliations, audit support, and general accounting work. The role backfills a previous Staff Accountant who advanced internally into FP&A, offering strong potential for professional growth. The ideal candidate brings solid foundational accounting knowledge, strong Excel skills, and the ability to learn quickly in a hands-on, fast-paced environment while contributing to accurate and timely financial reporting. Responsibilities Support the monthly close process by preparing and posting journal entries, completing account reconciliations, and maintaining accrual and prepaid schedules. Handle day-to-day general accounting activities to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. Assist with annual audit preparation by compiling supporting schedules, documentation, and explanations for auditors. Use Excel to organize, analyze, and reconcile financial data, including building and maintaining pivot tables and VLOOKUP-based reports. Partner with colleagues across accounting and finance in a lean team structure to support cross-functional initiatives and information sharing. Learn existing accounting processes quickly and develop a strong enough understanding of debits and credits to clearly explain accounting entries in everyday scenarios. Contribute to continuous improvement of accounting processes and controls in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment. Essential Skills Foundational accounting experience in a Staff Accountant or similar accounting role. Experience supporting month-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals. Experience supporting annual audit activity by providing schedules, documentation, and explanations. Strong understanding of debits, credits, and core accounting entries and the ability to walk through basic accounting scenarios. Strong Excel skills, including hands-on experience with pivot tables and VLOOKUPs. Ability to learn quickly and perform effectively in a lean, fast-paced environment. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a manufacturing environment. Exposure to QAD or another enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. Experience working within lean or high-growth organizations. Exposure to FP&A or broader finance team collaboration. Automotive industry experience. Interest in developing broader finance skills and growing within the organization. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Auburn Hills, MI.
