Credit Manager Department: Finance / Accounting Reports To: President Location: Dallas Employment Type: Full-Time The Credit Manager is responsible for overseeing the company's credit and collections functions to minimize financial risk while supporting sales growth and maintaining strong customer relationships. This role evaluates customer creditworthiness, establishes and manages credit limits, oversees accounts receivable collections, and ensures compliance with company credit policies. In a construction supply environment, the Credit Manager must understand contractor payment cycles, lien rights, project-based billing, and credit risk associated with commercial and residential construction customers. Key Responsibilities Evaluate and approve customer credit applications, establish credit limits, and monitor ongoing credit exposure. Analyze financial statements, credit reports, trade references, and payment history to assess customer risk. Manage accounts receivable aging and collection efforts to maintain healthy cash flow and reduce bad debt exposure. Develop and enforce credit policies, procedures, and internal controls. Monitor delinquent accounts and coordinate collection strategies, including payment plans and escalation processes. Partner with sales, operations, and branch management to balance customer service with prudent credit management. Review project information and assess risk related to contractors, subcontractors, developers, and commercial accounts. Administer lien rights, preliminary notices, mechanic's liens, bond claims, and related construction credit protections when applicable. Resolve billing disputes and coordinate with customers to address payment discrepancies. Prepare and present aging reports, DSO (Days Sales Outstanding), bad debt trends, and credit risk summaries to leadership. Recommend account holds, releases, or revised credit terms based on payment performance and risk analysis. Maintain compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal accounting standards. Lead, mentor, and supervise collections or credit staff, as applicable. Support audits and provide documentation related to receivables and credit controls. Qualifications Required: 5+ years of experience in credit, collections, accounts receivable, or financial risk management. Experience in construction materials, building supply, wholesale distribution, or a related industry preferred. Strong knowledge of credit analysis, collections, and accounts receivable management. Understanding of construction payment practices, lien laws, job accounts, and contractor credit risk. Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and Microsoft Excel. Strong analytical, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills. Preferred: Experience managing commercial credit portfolios. Knowledge of construction-related legal protections, including mechanics liens and bond claims. Supervisory or team leadership experience. Professional certifications such as NACM credit certifications.
