Position Summary and Purpose:

(Contract to Hire Position)

The Controller will lead the company's day-to-day accounting operations and oversee the financial close process while partnering closely with executive leadership across finance, operations, engineering, and manufacturing.

This role is responsible for managing general accounting, financial reporting, AP, payroll accounting, fixed assets, technical accounting, tax compliance and FP&A activities in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

This is a highly visible leadership role that requires a strong foundation in GAAP, operational finance, process improvement, and the ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a growth-stage technology or manufacturing environment and bring experience building scalable accounting and financial reporting processes within a lean organization.

The position will report directly to the CFO and play a key role in supporting audit readiness, investor reporting, operational scalability, budgeting and forecasting activities, and future corporate growth initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll accounting, accruals, and fixed assets.
  • Oversee inventory and cost accounting activities, including standard costing, inventory valuation, reserves analysis, manufacturing variances, BOM/routing accuracy, and coordination with operations and supply chain teams to ensure accurate inventory reporting and cost visibility across the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP by developing and maintaining strong accounting policies and procedures across the organization.
  • Manage technical accounting areas including revenue recognition, stock-based compensation, leases, debt, and other complex accounting matters as applicable.
  • Prepare and review account reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules.
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, engineering, manufacturing, and executive leadership to support business initiatives and operational decision-making.
  • Coordinate and manage the company's budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning processes in partnership with the CFO and operational leadership.
  • Develop and maintain financial reporting packages, KPI dashboards, variance analyses, and management reporting to support executive decision-making.
  • Assist with financial modeling and analysis related to operational performance, headcount planning, manufacturing costs, and strategic initiatives.
  • Coordinate and manage external audit activities and serve as a primary point of contact with outside auditors and advisors.
  • Assist with investor reporting, board materials, and financial presentations as needed.
  • Support implementation and enhancement of accounting systems, ERP functionality, and scalable financial processes.
  • Evaluate and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures in preparation for future growth and increased reporting requirements.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives focused on close acceleration, automation, reporting accuracy, forecasting capabilities, and operational efficiency.
  • Mentor and develop accounting staff while helping build a scalable accounting infrastructure.
  • Participate in special projects including financing activities, operational scaling initiatives, and strategic business projects.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
  • CPA certification is strongly preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience with a combination of public accounting and industry experience preferred. Start up experience highly desired.
  • Big 4 or national/mid-tier public accounting experience highly desirable.
  • Experience within a high-growth technology, semiconductor, hardware, advanced manufacturing, or related environment preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and technical accounting concepts.
  • Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes.
  • Experience managing audits and working with external auditors.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls and accounting process design.
  • ERP system experience required; experience helping scale systems and processes in a growing company environment is highly valued.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to operate both strategically and tactically within a lean, fast-paced organization.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Experience in private equity-backed, venture-backed, or pre-IPO environments is a plus.

Salary Range:

$160,000 to $180,000 + equity
