Her responsibility is to represent public officials and government agencies and to issue legal opinions that interpret State law. The Attorney General has the sole power under Mississippi law to bring or defend a lawsuit on behalf of the State. She acts as counsel to State agencies and defends them or brings suit on their behalf. Most importantly, the Office is charged with the representation of the people of the State of Mississippi. About the Position: This is a non-state service (X-16) position. Manage daily oversight of all accounting, financial and administrative operations for the Mississippi Attorney General's Office (AGO) including but not limited to: cash receipts, procurement, accounts payable, fleet, fixed assets, grants, travel, and year-end close-out. Oversee management of general fund appropriation, special funds, and grant funds. Responsible for financial oversight and monthly/quarterly reporting of federal and state grants. Compilation of annual GAAP reports for inclusion in the State's ACFR. Compilation of annual indirect cost rate proposal and submission to HHS. Assist with compilation of annual agency budget request. Assist with preparation of annual agency strategic plan. Oversee agency contracts in MAGIC as well as release legal contracts for state agencies in MAGIC. What you'll need to be Successful: Candidate should have knowledge and experience in governmental accounting operations for an agency; experience in MAGIC and SPAHRS; experience managing state and federal grants and budgets; excellent time management, organizational, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills; leadership and supervisory skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 7-8 years of experience.**Hiring agency's preferred qualifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a closely related field and 7-8 years of progressively responsible accounting/finance experience, including supervisory/management experience.
