Staff Accountant Location: Dallas, TX Job Type: Full-Time Position Summary We're looking for a motivated, detail-oriented Staff Accountant who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes ownership of their work. This role is ideal for a self-starter who can operate independently while collaborating across teams to support financial accuracy and operational success. Key Responsibilities Maintain the general ledger, including preparing and posting journal entries to ensure accurate cost allocation by community, phase, lot, and home Reconcile bank accounts, escrow accounts, and credit cards to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial records Track and analyze construction costs, including backlog margin reporting and variance analysis against budgets Assist in preparing monthly financial statements and supporting schedules, including community- and project-level reporting Manage the weekly accounts payable cycle, ensuring proper coding, approvals, and timely vendor payments Maintain accurate vendor records in compliance with company policies and contract terms Support home closing activities by coordinating with sales, escrow, and title partners to ensure accurate financial recording Assist with internal and external audits and help maintain strong internal controls and compliance standards Collaborate with construction, purchasing, land development, sales, and finance teams to resolve accounting issues and improve processes Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field (or equivalent experience) Experience in construction or real estate accounting **required Familiarity with job cost accounting systems and ERP platforms (e.g., BRIX, BuildPro, JD Edwards, or similar) Advanced Excel skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis Working knowledge of GAAP, including percentage-of-completion and completed-contract methods Strong attention to detail and ability to manage high-volume work under tight deadlines Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret financial data and trends Excellent communication skills and ability to partner with cross-functional teams Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
