Job Summary:
The Project Accountant is responsible for full-cycle accounting and financial analysis of government contracts. This includes billing, managing accounts receivable, and cash flow forecasting. The Senior Project Accountant will also perform project analysis, work closely with operations managers to explain variances and make adjustments where necessary. Responsibilities will also include expense and revenue accruals, cost allocations, and other month-end close procedures. In addition to having primary responsibility for assigned projects, the Project Accountant will serve as backup for projects assigned to other project accountants and assist in the reconciliation of General Ledger accounts and compilation of financial statements.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Updates accounting system billing and revenue recognition to reflect contract modifications
Tracks project billing and funding utilization
Prepares invoices for customers and, following customers procedures, submits said invoices for approvals and payments
Posts payments received to the accounting system and manages AR aging balances
Perform project profitability analyses, troubleshooting variances and providing commentary for job performance
Works closely with Project Managers and other field personnel with reporting, training, and analysis
Employs problem-solving skills and financial analysis
Develops working knowledge of government contract requirements
All work in compliance with FAR, GAAP, and company cost accounting policies and procedures
Assists with special projects as needed and performs other duties as required.

Ability to remain flexible in a rapidly growing company
Orientation to operations accounting with an inquisitive nature
Ability to work well with others under deadline situations and respond to changes in priorities
Good written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills
Ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities, and see projects through to completion

Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent
5-10+ years of progressive accounting responsibilities
Minimum two years in project/contract accounting, government contract accounting preferred
Working knowledge of GAAP; knowledge of FAR and CAS preferred
Experience with JAMIS Prime a plus
Advanced MS Excel a plus
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Occasional periods of prolonged exposure to load noises
Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times
Ability to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands as necessary
Ability to hear and see to position and safety requirement levels
The work environment is open concept and is usually quiet to moderately noisy
Work from home is available from time to time with approval
Occasional travel required
Special Qualifications/Requirements:
Must be able to successfully pass as required a federal, state, or local government's background investigation
