GeneralSummary of Position:
The Construction/Manufacturing Cost Accountant isresponsible for overseeing job costing, project budget tracking, and accountingsupport functions for a growing construction and prefabrication company. Thisrole is responsible for maintaining accurate financial data related toprojects, monitoring job profitability, supporting operational decision-making,and helping leadership maintain strong financial controls.
The idealcandidate has experience in construction accounting and job costing,understands project financial management, and can work closely with projectmanagers, operations, purchasing, and leadership teams to improve budgetaccuracy and profitability
EssentialDuties (Core Competencies):
Job Cost& Project Budget Oversight:
Maintain accurate job costing for allconstruction and prefabrication projects
Track and analyze:
Labor costs
Material costs
Subcontractor costs
Equipment expenses
Freight and shipping costs
Overhead allocations
Monitor projects budgets versus actualcosts
Assist in developing and maintain projectbudgets
Work closely with project managers andoperations teams to identify cost overruns and budget concerns
Review purchase orders and vendorcommitments against project budgets
Assist with monthly project financialreviews
Support forecasting of projects marginsand cash flow needs
WIP Reporting & FinancialAnalysis:
Prepare and maintain accurate Work InProgress (WIP) schedules
Track percentage-of-completion reportingand project revenue recognition
Assist leadership in evaluating:
Cost-to-complete estimates
Earned revenue
Underbillings and overbillings
Estimated final project margins
Generate weekly and monthly projectfinancial reports for management review
Provide analysis on project performancetrends and cost drivers
Develop reporting tools and dashboards toimprove operational visibility
Assist with forecasting company backlog,cash flow, and project profitability
Budgeting & Operational Support
Participate in project startup meetingsto establish financial tracking requirements
Assist estimating and project managementteams with budget setup and cost planning
Review change orders and assist withtracking approved and pending changes
Coordinate with purchasing and operationsto verify pricing and material cost accuracy
Assist in evaluating vendor pricing,material usage, and purchasing trends
Support inventory and material trackingprocedures within fabrication and warehouse operations
Help establish operational controls toimprove project efficiency and accountability
Accounting & Financial Support:
Assist with month-end and year-end closeprocesses
Reconcile job cost reports to generalledger activity
Support accounts payable and accountsreceivable processes related to project accounting
Assist with payroll allocation and laborcosting
Maintain accurate cost coding and projectfinancial records
Support sales tax and multi-stateconstruction reporting requirements and filings
Assist external CPA firms and auditorswith financial documentation and tax filings
Assist with licensing for projects
Help maintain accounting procedures andinternal controls
Assist in monthly forecasting andprojections
Complete prequalifications for jobs asneeded
Operational& Process Improvement:
Manage and provide the monthly status onthe bad-debt write-off process and provide recommendations for reserveaccruals.
Manage and provide monthly status reportson the release of bonds, liens, and all other related processes pertaining tocash and contract receivables.
Manage the job status from active, toinactive, to closed, and issue status reports monthly.
Help improve job cost tracking systemsand reporting accuracy
Assist leadership with financial analysisand operational reporting
Develop and maintain project costtracking tools and dashboards
Improve documentation and purchasingcontrols

Participate in management meetings andproject review discussions as needed
Purchasing& Inventory Management
Assist with materials, tools, equipment,and physical inventories, and cycle count as needed.
Learn, understand, and support inventorymanagement procedures and accounting.
Other DutiesAs Needed:
Assist with records retentionmaintenance.
Provide payables and capital data foraudits (insurance, state, internal).
Follow up on vendor inquiries fromvendors and/or employees.
Establish new state/local reportingrequirements, as necessary (includes online setup, maintaining a log of accountnumbers, filing requirements, and deadlines).
Follow standard operating procedures toensure employees can complete tasks successfully.
Backup payroll timecard processing, asneeded.
Backup billing functions and accountspayable functions, as needed.
Backup purchasing functions, as needed.
Backup project management assistantfunctions for payables, as needed.
Assist/provide expertise in setting upExcel files for various departments throughout the company.
Provide training to other employeespertaining to Foundation, Excel, and other useful reporting tools to improvebusiness knowledge.

PreferredExperience:
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Financeor related field preferred
37 years of accounting or job costexperience
Construction accounting experiencestrongly preferred
Strong understanding of:

Experience with accounting or ERPsystems such as:
Sage
Foundation
QuickBooks Enterprise
Acumatica
Viewpoint
Procore integrations
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Strong analytical, organizational, andcommunication skills
Ability to work in a fast-pacedconstruction environment
Independent work/judgement.
Strong attention to detail.
Experience with Foundation accountingsystem is a plus.
