Responsibilities

DESCRIPTION:

The Student Accounting Specialist I provides a variety of clerical, administrative, and financial support. Responds to inquiries related to students' financial transactions, maintains accuracy of transactions, audits source documents, and posts transactions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Responds to inquiries related to students' financial transactions and the College's third-party provider of student financial aid refunds, interacting in person and over the phone with students, faculty, and staff.

2. Coordinates with other departments to maintain accuracy of students' financial transactions.

3. Audits transaction source documents ensuring sufficient supporting detail prior to posting.

4. Posts financial transactions to student accounts, such as payments, third party contract assignments, and waivers.

5. Audits data after entry to ensure system data integrity.

6. Provides support functions in the collection of outstanding obligations to the College, such as mailing invoices and following up on returned mail; auditing holds on students' accounts; and scanning student financial documents.

7. Provides clerical support, such as data entry and filing.

8. Serves as backup for daily deposit preparation.

9. Performs other duties as may be required or assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.

2. One year of clerical, administrative, or financial experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

1. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

2. Ability to work well in a team environment.

3. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.

4. Ability to learn and become proficient in PeopleSoft student financials modules.

5. Ability to work with detailed spreadsheets and student records.

6. Knowledge of and ability to interpret College policies and procedures.

7. Committed to working in a multicultural environment.

8. Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor.

WORK ENVIRONMENT and SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

1. Works in an office environment.

2. Will be required to work flexible hours, which may include shifts at any of the College locations.

Conditions of Employment

Finalists and individuals recommended for employment at Seminole State College must reside in the State of Florida at the time of hire and may be subject to background investigations and fingerprinting in compliance with Florida Statute 1001.64; and Seminole State College Policy 1.020; 2.020.
