Join our family-owned, high-volume metal recycling facility as a Bookkeeper / Office Assistant, where you'll play a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting daily office operations. Responsibilities
Manage and maintain the general ledger by performing account analysis to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data
Prepare journal entries, reconcile balance sheets, and maintain the integrity of the general ledger in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
Process weekly payroll and related tax filings
Conduct account reconciliations, including cash and bank statements and account analysis to identify discrepancies and resolve issues promptly
Support budgeting activities by compiling financial data and preparing reports for management review
Handle administrative tasks such as data entry, typing, filing, and supporting office operations as needed, including front window customer payments
Provide front desk coverage and answer a multi-line phone system
Assist with Dispatch, Shipping and Receiving documentation and record-keeping
Assist management with HR functions and insurance administration
Coordinate Storm Water compliance and testing activities (training provided)
Participate in and support Safety Committee initiatives
Proven experience in bookkeeping or accounting roles, ideally within public or non-profit accounting environments required
Strong proficiency with QuickBooks and Excel required
Prior cash handling experience and working directly with the public, providing excellent customer service a plus
Knowledge of financial concepts such as debits & credits, double-entry bookkeeping, journal entries, and general ledger reconciliation is a MUST
Ability to perform detailed account analysis and reconcile accounts accurately
Demonstrate a strong work ethic and reliable attendance
Experience with payroll processing is highly desirable
Ability to learn industry-specific accounting software
