We are currently looking for an Assistant Controller (CPA) to join our growing team. This role is responsible for overseeing daily accounting operations, maintaining the integrity of financial reporting, managing month-end close processes, and ensuring compliance with GAAP, payroll, treasury, and tax requirements.
What You ll Do As the Assistant Controller at Bader Law, you will play a critical leadership role within the Finance Department, ensuring accurate financial operations, strong internal controls, and efficient accounting workflows.
Core Responsibilities Own and manage the monthly close process, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and variance review
Prepare accurate monthly financial statements, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports in accordance with GAAP
Partner closely with the Finance Director to support month-end reporting, variance analysis, and financial insights
Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, chart of accounts, and accounting policies
Oversee daily accounting operations, including bank reconciliations, cash management, intercompany entries, and trust accounting support where applicable
Supervise and support AR/AP personnel by reviewing entries, approving payments, and managing accounting priorities
Execute and maintain ACH and wire payment controls with proper approval workflows and audit documentation
Manage treasury activities, including reserve transfers and tax reserve allocations
Oversee payroll processing through ADP, ensuring accurate coding, timely funding, and payroll compliance
Partner with Human Resources regarding onboarding, terminations, commissions, bonuses, and benefits reconciliation
Manage tax filings, business license renewals, and coordination with external CPAs and auditors
Lead audit preparation and serve as the primary point of contact for external audit requests
Design, document, and maintain accounting and treasury internal controls
Develop and maintain SOPs across accounting, payroll, treasury, AP, AR, and tax functions
Identify opportunities for automation, workflow optimization, and accounting process improvement
Coach, mentor, and develop accounting support staff while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
What We re Looking For We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated accounting professional with the following qualifications:
Bachelor s degree in Accounting required
Active CPA license required
Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in an Accounting Manager or Controller-level role
Strong experience managing month-end close and preparing GAAP-compliant financial statements
Hands-on experience with payroll systems, preferably ADP
Strong knowledge of commercial banking platforms, treasury controls, and cash management processes
Experience developing and enforcing internal controls and accounting procedures
Prior experience supervising AR/AP or accounting support staff
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Experience within a law firm or professional services environment is preferred
Familiarity with EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) is a plus
