Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.

Experience analyzing, interpreting and communicating federal, state, and local regulations and laws.

Must be:

currently licensed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

OR have passed a minimum of two current credits on the CPA exam with plans to complete testing requirements within two years.

Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.

Strong analytical and critical thinking skills needed to identify and resolve problems related to tax issues, complete assigned projects, and prioritize workload.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from accredited four-year college or university with a major in accounting.

Experience working in higher education

Professional communication skills to work with other offices across campus, as well as work collaboratively with other team members.

Job Description

The Tax Analyst will be responsible for serving as the University's primary information resource on tax compliance matters. The selected candidate will act as a liaison between Texas State departments and various taxing authorities.

Job Duties

Primarily responsible for university-wide IRS tax compliance and reporting, including all required filings; provides oversight and coordination of contributors across departments and external vendors to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant reporting across all university operations. This includes Forms 990, 990-T, and related filings; IRS Forms 1042-S, 1099, 941, 1098-T, 1095-C, and related reporting.

Develop procedures and training for staff to enable them to carry out their responsibilities; to include, but not limited to: Unrelated business income (UBIT), Texas sales/use tax, 1098-T reporting, 1099 reporting, tax compliance for nonresident alien employees/students/independent contractors, fringe benefits and employment tax, worker's classification (employee vs independent contractor)

Research taxability inquiries, provide tax-related guidance, and prepare written responses to ruling requests.

Review vendor W-8 Ben and W-8 BEN-E forms for foreign persons and communicate with the department to discuss tax implications. Review independent contractor determination worksheets.

Maintain updated tax information on department's website.

Stay updated on tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
