George Fox University's Finance Department is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual to join the team as a General Ledger Accountant.
About the Job:
The General Ledger Accountant is responsible for creating and maintaining accurate and compliant financial documents. Duties and responsibilities include entering, reviewing for accuracy, and reconciling financial data.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Financial Reporting & Maintenance: Recording daily, weekly, or monthly transactions into the system of record to maintain financial accuracy.
- GL Monitoring: Monitoring General Ledger activity to identify and resolve errors or discrepancies.
- Process Improvement: Reviewing existing processes to target opportunities for increased efficiency, functionality, and documentation.
- Account Reconciliation: Performing monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations of receivables, payables, and other required accounts.
- Audit & Tax Prep: Assisting in preparations for the annual audit, required 990 tax reporting, and other reporting requirements of the University.
- Process Improvement: Reviewing existing processes to target opportunities for increased efficiency, functionality, and documentation.
- Collaboration: Cross training to provide backup in other areas within the department.
- Strategic Support & Ad Hoc Projects: Completing special projects and periodic reporting as requested to support the evolving needs of the university.
- Operational Agility: Other duties assigned to ensure continuous improvement in finance operations.
- Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
- By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
- Demonstrated experience working cross culturally with respect, appreciation and humility.
- Other duties as assigned.
A day in the life of this position:
This position will communicate through various means with a wide variety of stakeholders within the university. This position includes both routine duties and variation based on the needs of each day while providing support to the entire university. The daily work often consists of posting journals, problem-solving, and communication with the university community. Tasks often include special projects or reporting that occur periodically during the year.
We're looking for candidates who have:
- Two or more years of accounting or finance experience. Preference is given to education in accounting or a related field.
- Proficiency with programs such as Microsoft Excel and Word.
- The desire to be part of a team, detail oriented with good organizational skills and initiative.
- Aptitude and interest in learning technology.
- Integrity and discretion when handling confidential information.
- The ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
