This position under general supervision, the Accountant performs various governmental accounting functions related to internal auditing, account reconciliations and financial reporting and analysis.
- Works with auditors and internal staff accountants in performance of audit and in the preparation of financial statements;
- Assists in the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, implements GASB statements, and coordinates actuarial studies
- Prepares general ledger entries and complex year-end reconciliations (Leases, OPEB, Pension Liabilities, & other);
- Performs related tasks as required, such as preparing various schedules for financial statements (Leases, OPEB, Pension Liabilities) for Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
- Ensures that the County is in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), and state and local regulations, policies and procedures;
- Monitors, reconciles, and records financial activity for the County;
- Coordinates, reviews, compiles and reports information for internal audits;
- Evaluates and provides recommendations as it pertains to the improvement of internal operational efficiencies, increased productivity or financial policies or procedures to include preparing drafts of new or revised policies and procedures;
- Monitors general ledger account activity to ensure transactions are recorded properly in the financial system;
- Prepares spreadsheets and other necessary documents;
- Serves as staff liaison on fiscal matters between the County and external agencies as needed;
- Assists with preparing annual budget;
- Advises County departments on financial processes as needed;
- Observes all approved safety and health policies and procedures pertaining to an employees work activities and performs all work tasks in a safe and healthy manner in accordance with County policy.
- Performs other assigned duties.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Requires the use of fingers, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting
- One (1) years of related work experience;
- Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Driver's License valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
