Payroll Coordinator
Position Summary
The Payroll Coordinator supports accurate and timely processing of payroll for all district employees. This position performs routine payroll tasks, maintains payroll records, assists in payroll reporting, and provides customer service to employees regarding compensation, benefits deductions, and timekeeping. The role ensures payroll practices follow established procedures and applicable regulations.

Contract: 12-mo /261 day Employment Agreement
Reports To: Payroll Supervisor
Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Associates in accounting, business or related field.
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration; preferred.
Experience: Minimum of two years of experience processing payroll using an automated system.
Two or more years of experience in a public school business office, preferred.
Experience with school business processing software.
Experience using EFinancePlus, PowerSchool, TimeClock Plus, and/or Frontline, preferred.
Demonstrated excellence in communication, both oral and written.
Excellent understanding of payroll fundamentals and principles.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Applications.
Proficiency in payroll processing, benefits administration, and payroll reporting.
Understanding of state and federal regulations as related to payroll processing.
Essential Functions
Assists with payroll processing and ensures payroll is accurate and in compliance with union contracts, policies, and legal requirements.
Maintains accurate payroll and compensation records in the HR/payroll system.
Provides professional customer service for payroll-related inquiries.
Prepares payroll-related tax forms on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis for review by the payroll supervisor.
Under direction, ensures accurate deductions for benefits, taxes, retirement contributions, and garnishments.
Assists with preparing and posting payroll-related journal entries, including substitute costs and payroll reclassifications.
Supports resolution of payroll discrepancies, including direct deposit issues, over/under payments, and deductions.
Assist with the preparation of payroll tax filings and reports, including federal, state, and local taxes, for review by the payroll manager.
Support accurate payroll coding for grant-funded and state-categorically funded positions in collaboration with the payroll manager.
Compile payroll data to support audits, budget planning, and year-end reporting.
Helps maintain the District's electronic timekeeping system, including basic troubleshooting.
Compiles payroll data and generates reports as requested using Cognos.
Collaborates with Human Resources and Finance teams to ensure accurate employee and compensation information.
Supports benefits enrollment by verifying appropriate payroll deductions.
Assists the Finance Department by providing payroll data for reconciliation and budgeting.
Supports the payroll manager in implementing payroll software upgrades.
Other Functions
Participate in training programs for payroll procedures and system enhancements.
Take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
Maintain integrity and confidentiality in all aspects of the role.
Collaborate effectively with colleagues, district staff, and others on team-based tasks.
Interact respectfully and professionally with staff, students, and visitors.
Follow all safety protocols and policies outlined by the Ankeny Community School District.
Support the district's goals and objectives, ensuring adherence to district policies.
Demonstrate regular and consistent attendance to support the smooth operation of district functions.
Perform all duties in a safe manner, prioritizing the safety of oneself and others.
Respond to emergencies promptly, addressing immediate safety concerns and coordinating with the appropriate personnel as needed.
Complete additional tasks as required to ensure the efficient operation of the work unit.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Working Environment
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, driving, standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity. Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.
