Business Services invites applications for a Compliance Specialist to provide financial services responsive to the needs of students, faculty, and staff of The .
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
Examine, analyze, and interpret records to ensure proper recording of transactions and compliance with laws, regulations, policies and procedures to ensure there is no fraud, duplication or violation
Verify invoices by auditing transactions and supporting documentation, handling inquiries, and identifying errors
Serve as accounting auditor - review transactions for correct accounting procedures and record entries to accounting standards as needed
Advise, train, and provide guidance to other departmental staff regarding accounts payable, acting as a liaison between departments and vendors
Resolve issues of unallowable expenses with staff using diplomacy, tact, and excellent customer service skills
Review, track, and reconcile payments made to vendors on behalf of UM
Correspond with vendors to resolve past due accounts or other inquiries
Reconcile accounting transactions to accounting ledgers ensuring disbursement and placement of funds are in correct locations
Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated experience and education in accounting and accounts payable
Demonstrated accounting or auditing experience with emphasis on vendor payments, cost coding, vendor statement reconciliation, record keeping duties, reconciling accounts, and dealing with the public
Demonstrated customer service experience in a business setting as a team lead
Demonstrated experience interpreting, communicating, and maintaining compliance with policies and procedures
Demonstrated experience using word processing, database, and spreadsheet software
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field and at least two (2) years related professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Project and process management experience
Experience with a complex accounting or accounts payable system
Experience with regulatory compliance
Experience in delivering training either one-on-one or in large group settings
Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills

Bargaining Unit: FOCUS-MFPE
Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year
Probationary Period: Six (6) months minimum
Benefits Include: Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
