Position OverviewThe Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting operations of a projectdriven designbuild construction firm. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, regulatory compliance, and effective cash flow management.The Controller partners closely with executive leadership and project teams to support profitability, maintain job cost accuracy, and provide financial insight that informs strategic decisionmaking across the business.Key ResponsibilitiesOversee daytoday accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assetsManage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial statementsDevelop, maintain, and improve job costing systems to track project performance, budgets, and profitabilityPrepare, review, and analyze workinprogress (WIP) schedules, including percentageofcompletion accounting and revenue recognitionPrepare financial reports, forecasts, and variance analyses for executive leadershipEnsure compliance with GAAP and all applicable federal, state, and local regulationsEstablish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrityOversee cash flow management, including forecasting, banking relationships, and credit facilitiesCoordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial consultantsSupport annual budgeting and longerterm strategic planning effortsCollaborate with project managers to monitor project financial health and proactively address risks or cost overrunsLead, manage, and mentor accounting staff, fostering accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvementEducation & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA preferred4-7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership roleConstruction industry experience strongly preferredDemonstrated expertise in job costing, WIP reporting, and construction revenue recognitionExperience with construction accounting and project management systems strongly preferredAdvanced Microsoft Excel skills requiredStrong analytical, organizational, and problemsolving abilitiesAbility to clearly communicate financial information to nonfinancial stakeholdersCore Skills & CompetenciesStrong financial acumen with exceptional attention to detailLeadership mindset with the ability to develop and mentor teamsStrategic thinker who acts as a business partner to operations and leadershipHigh integrity, sound judgment, and discretion with confidential informationProcessdriven with a continuous improvement mentalityAble to thrive in a fastpaced, deadlinedriven environmentWork Environment & Physical RequirementsPrimarily officebased roleProlonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computerOccasional lifting of items up to 15 poundsAbility to clearly see, hear, speak, and communicate with internal teams and external partnersWhy This RoleThis is a highimpact opportunity for a constructionsavvy Controller to step into a leadership role where financial visibility, operational partnership, and disciplined execution directly influence company performance.
