As a Controller - Project Compliance, you play a critical role in supporting successful project execution through organization, accountability, and collaboration. You help ensure project teams have the documentation, processes, and compliance support needed to keep projects moving efficiently and accurately from startup to closeout.

You will work closely with Division Manager, project teams, accounting staff, subcontractors, and leadership to strengthen processes, maintain compliance, and support project success every step of the way.

CONTROLLER - PROJECT COMPLIANCE

Department: Support It Direct Supervisor: Director of Support

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

  • Lead, mentor and train Project Coordinators.
  • Maintain balanced workloads for Project Coordinators, including assigning support staff to projects.
  • Work in conjunction with the Division Managers, Project Managers, Project Engineers, Superintendents and other project staff to ensure processes align with project support needs and recommend process improvements.
  • Serve as a leader for Project Coordinators and maintain a collaborative environment with Project Teams and Project Accountants.
  • Ensure subcontractor compliance and proper payment procedures through verification and assessment of insurance certificates, certified payroll reports, background check results, lien waivers, supporting documentation, and other project-specific requirements.
  • Proof, distribute, and attach appropriate documentation to subcontract agreements and purchase orders while overseeing execution and follow-up processes.
  • Organize project documentation, reconcile records, and ensure all project documentation is properly saved in Procore upon project closeout.
  • Understand subcontract agreement language related to subcontractor payment and documentation requirements.
  • Obtain and coordinate permits including City, County, State, SWPPP, and utility permits as directed by project teams.
  • Assist project teams with the organization and creation of Operations & Maintenance Manuals in accordance with project specifications and owner requirements.
  • Support collaborative communication between Project Teams, Project Accountants, and other departments to ensure efficient project operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Construction industry experience preferred.
  • Experience managing and leading people.
  • Familiarity with terminology, processes, and documentation related to one or more of the following areas: insurance, accounting, construction, certified payroll, or project compliance.
  • Understanding how project support processes work together as part of the overall project lifecycle.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required; advanced Excel capabilities strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Procore or similar construction management software preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and accuracy while managing detailed project documentation and compliance requirements.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to process improvement and operational excellence.

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES

  • Notary for the State of Montana preferred
