UNCLASSIFIED POSITION IN THE FULTON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE
PROPERTY TAX UNIT
The Accounting Associate in the Property Tax Unit plays a critical role in supporting the lawful execution of property levies within Fulton County. This position ensures full compliance with statutory requirements governing judicial foreclosure liens and non-judicial delinquent tax liens. The role involves managing lien documentation, coordinating pre-sale and post-sale processes, maintaining accurate financial records, and working closely with lienholders and contracted vendors. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of navigating both administrative and accounting responsibilities in a fast-paced, compliance-driven environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate degree in accounting, business or public administration, or a related field required, supplemented by one year of accounting experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: None.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:
- Proficiency with computer systems and software, including Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Word, Excel) and database management tools.
- Ability to learn legal processes related to Civil Practices and Revenue and Taxation.
- Basic understanding of legal and accounting terminology.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and document preparation.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong customer service orientation and commitment to ethical conduct.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to lift items used for Levy Sales and boxes weighing approximately 10-15 lbs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Pre-Sale Administration
- Prepare all pre-sale communications with lienholders.
- Prepare and mail statutory notices to all individuals or entities with a recorded interest in the subject property.
- Submit legal advertisements for publication in the county's designated legal organ.
- Review title reports submitted by plaintiffs and contracted vendors, identifying potential title issues.
Property & Financial Record Management
Maintain complete and accurate records for each property, including:
Amounts owed
Costs and expenses incurred by the Sheriff's Office
Minimum bid requirements
Winning bid amounts
Excess funds
Maintain lien files and all related documents in accordance with Georgia's record retention schedule.
Funds Reconciliation & Disbursement
- Reconcile funds collected prior to the Sale and from winning bids.
- Verify proceeds owed to lienholders.
- Process and record funds transferred to the County for costs and fees associated with each levy, execution, and Sale.
Post-Sale Responsibilities
- Manage public Sale processes and record all payments.
- Prepare post-sale documents, including Sheriff's Deeds for judicial foreclosure liens.
- Review Tax Deeds and related documents prepared by contracted vendors.
- Create invoices for pulled or canceled liens.
- Confirm the facial validity of each lien and ensure all statutory requirements are met.
Additional Functions:
Performs other related duties as required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- All applicants must agree to and successfully pass a background investigation, drug screening and polygraph to be considered for employment with the Fulton County Sheriff's Office.*
EXAMINATION:
The examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience accomplished by analysis of the application. Application must document that the applicant possesses the minimum knowledge, skills, education and experience as listed to be qualified. If selected, an official, accredited college transcript is required, at time of employment, for all degrees/course work used to qualify for this position.
