The Controller is a senior member of the Finance and Administration team, reporting directly to the Vice President for Finance & Administration. This position is responsible for managing the university's accounting operations, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, and providing accurate financial reporting to support strategic decisionmaking.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting.

Prepare timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP and Board of Regents policies.

Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, South Dakota Board of Regents, and institutional regulations.

Develop and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard university assets.

Provide financial analysis and recommendations to senior leadership.

Supervise and mentor accounting staff, promoting professional development and efficiency.

Collaborate with campus departments to support budgeting and forecasting processes.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master's degree or CPA preferred).

Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities.

Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and financial reporting standards.

Experience in higher education or nonprofit sector preferred.
