The Staff Accountant is a key member of the Universitys Business Office, supporting core accounting and budgeting functions to ensure accurate financial reporting and effective stewardship of institutional resources. This role contributes to monthly and annual close processes, budget monitoring, account reconciliations, and audit support, while ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulations specific to higher education and nonprofit organizations. The Staff Accountant collaborates with campus partners to provide reliable financial information that supports informed decision-making and advances the Universitys mission.
Essential Functions- Support Director of Budget with annual budgets to ensure a timely process
- Assist Director of Budget with monthly monitoring of budget-to-actuals to control expenses
- Assist Director of Budget with creation and revision of internal budget reports as required
- Assist with gathering historical data as requested by Budget Managers
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations
- Assist with annual audit schedules
- Review all credit card expense reports for budget number accuracy and make any necessary changes
- Reconcile various general ledger accounts
- Reconcile payroll module and the general ledger for all salaries and wages
- Maintain a listing of all lease payments during the fiscal year
- Reconcile accounts payable monthly
- Reconcile donor system contributions to the general ledger monthly
- Back up for accounts payable and cash receipts
- Ability to handle and work with interruptions during normal office hours.

Required:
- Two to three years of public accounting experience.
- Associates degree in accounting
- Skilled in Excel, Word, Tax Software, and Thomson
Preferred:
- Four to five years of public accounting experience.
- Bachelors degree in accounting
- Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and the Windows environment.
Environmental Conditions:
- Indoors in a normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes at least eighty percent (80%) of the time.
- Frequent computer use at a workstation, up to eight hours per day.
- Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
- Drive personal or University vehicles to appointments.
- Public contact position requiring professional apparel, personal hygiene, and grooming.
Physical Demands:
- This position typically functions indoors in an office environment with light to moderate noise associated with business office equipment. The position may involve travel for meetings and events.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: remain in a stationary position 80 % of the time, be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets/office machinery etc., operate a computer and keyboard and other office productivity machinery such as calculators/copy machines/printers. The employee is occasionally required to position self to reach items on the floor and in high cabinetry.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Employee must be able to communicate with others to exchange information including both over the telephone and in-person communication with callers and community members and be able to read a computer screen and paper documents.

$45,760 $53,040 annually is the starting annual salary for this role and reflects what Fresno Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, Fresno Pacific University offers a competitive benefits
