Grant Accountant Location Fresno, CA Job Type Full-Time Job Number 2026-00648 Department Business Office Opening Date 04/15/2026 Description Benefits Position Summary Department: Business Office Reports To: Controller Status: Non-Exempt The Grant Accountant performs accounting and administrative work involved in the daily organization and operation of the University's accounting as it relates to the Colleague Project and Management module as well as the reconciliation of Donors. The Grant Accountant exercises independent judgment and discretion in planning and carrying out the details of work procedures and methods. The Grant Accountant's work is primarily reviewed through normal accounting and systems up to and including review by the controller and including audits. The Grant Accountant will be responsible for collecting contracts, storing, organizing and preparing the billings for any Grants that are defined as advance or reimbursement as well as tracking and communicating to other departments the budgets as well as any related expenditures. The Grant Accountant will prepare schedules monthly to provide project managers with the Grant Balances which will be used to publish reports to the Grant Donor. Essential Functions Collects, organizes, and analyzes financial data for the preparation of various reports and statistical data for both internal and external reporting and assists in management's decision-making. Maintains accuracy of financial data through assigning the correct account numbers and expense codes, reviewing, or approving transactions, properly recording transactions via journal entries, preparing, or reviewing any adjustments needed, updating the grant, endowment and donations control system, and preparing monthly reconciliations working with Accounts Payable to ensure proper project coding is recorded to track Grant and Donation activities with accuracy. Develops and maintains a thorough understanding of the University's accounting policies and procedures and may be responsible for providing training and financial services to a particular University unit or cost center. Ensures the most effective and efficient use of university resources by regularly engaging in process or system analysis and by assisting in the updating of system-wide policies and procedures. Ensures the timeliness of the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers by monitoring the work of the clerical staff and students and by working with other University units on the timely submission of financial information. Works with external auditors and prepares audit work papers for the fiscal year audit by researching and analyzing the year-to-date accounting information. Complete tasks timely with work that is comprehensive, complete, and accurate Communicates clearly, listens attentively, and seeks to understand others Collaborates productively with colleagues of varying skillset Other job duties as assigned Qualifications Required: Two to three years of Grant accounting experience Skilled in Excel, Word, MS Outlook and MS Teams Ability to handle and work with interruptions during normal office hours Demonstrated organizational capabilities, detail orientation, and the ability to handle multiple priorities and complex projects simultaneously Strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills Ability to interact with people in a warm, professional manner Ability to learn new technology Ability to maintain confidentiality and respond to changes in a timely manner Preferred: Four to five years of public accounting experience Bachelor's degree in accounting Environmental Conditions: Indoors in a normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes at least eighty percent (80%) of the time. Frequent computer use at a workstation, up to eight hours per day. Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions. Drive personal or University vehicles to appointments. Public contact position requiring business casual apparel, personal hygiene, and grooming. Physical Demands: This position typically functions indoors in an office environment with light to moderate noise associated with business office equipment. The position may involve travel for meetings and events. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: remain in a stationary position 80 % of the time, be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets/office machinery etc., operate a computer and keyboard and other office productivity machinery such as calculators/copy machines/printers. The employee is occasionally required to position self to reach items on the floor and in high cabinetry. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Employee must be able to communicate with others to exchange information including both over the telephone and in-person communication with callers and community members and be able to read a computer screen and paper documents. University Information $45,750.00 to $53,040.00 is the annual starting salary for this role and reflects what Fresno Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
