Job Title: General Ledger Accountant, Payroll
Type : Full-Time | Onsite (5 days)

Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented General Ledger Accountant, Payroll to join our finance team. This role is responsible for the accounting and reconciliation of payroll-related transactions , ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with internal controls and accounting standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in general ledger accounting with a specialized focus on payroll-related accounts, including accruals, benefits, taxes, and compensation-related journal entries.

Key Responsibilities
Payroll Accounting & GL Support
  • Prepare and post journal entries related to payroll, benefits, and compensation during month-end close.
  • Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts, including wages, bonuses, taxes, benefits, and payroll liabilities.
  • Ensure proper expense recognition and compliance with GAAP for payroll transactions.
  • Collaborate with HR and payroll teams to ensure accurate data integration into the GL.
  • Monitor payroll interfaces and resolve discrepancies between payroll systems and accounting records.
  • Maintain documentation supporting payroll-related journal entries and reconciliations.

Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
  • Assist with month-end close activities, focusing on payroll-related accounts and accruals.
  • Support the preparation of financial statements and internal reports with accurate payroll data.
  • Identify and report unusual payroll transactions or variances to senior management.
  • Participate in consolidations and elimination entries related to intercompany payroll transactions.

Audit & Compliance
  • Provide audit support for payroll-related accounts, including reconciliations and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and SOX requirements related to payroll accounting.
  • Assist in the preparation of audit schedules and respond to auditor inquiries regarding payroll transactions.

Process Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll accounting processes and automate routine tasks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline payroll data flow and reconciliation procedures.

Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 24 years of experience in general ledger accounting, with a focus on payroll-related accounts
  • Strong understanding of payroll accounting principles, accruals, and benefits
  • CPA preferred but not required
  • Proficiency in Excel and ERP systems; experience with payroll system interfaces is a plus
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills
