The position is in the Boise Office on the Chinden Campus, 11321 West Chinden Blvd, Building 2.

The Idaho State Tax Commission Fraud & Criminal Investigation Unit ( FCIU ) is seeking a self-motivated individual to join our team as a Tax Auditor 1 specializing in fraud and criminal investigations (underfill for a Tax Auditor 2).

Fraud and criminal investigation positions give presentations, testify in court, analyze evidence, interview suspects and victims, prepare detailed reports and work closely with police detectives and prosecuting attorneys. Assignments and training opportunities require the incumbent to travel occasionally within the geographic area of the state.

The ideal candidate is curious, detail-oriented, and thrives on solving complex problems. They bring strong analytical skills to uncover patterns in financial data, communicate clearly in both interviews and written reports, and work well with a wide range of people-from witnesses to legal professionals. Responsibilities:

+ Review tax returns, financial records, and accounting systems to detect fraud or noncompliance

+ Interview taxpayers, witnesses, and others to gather information and clarify facts

+ Analyze evidence using financial data and internal research tools

+ Prepare clear, detailed reports to support potential legal action

+ Work with prosecutors, attorneys, and investigative partners to build strong cases

+ Provide testimony in judicial proceedings when needed

Minimum Qualifications:

+ Good knowledge of accounting principles and practices.

This is typically gained by having completed 12 credit hours for upper division courses ( ACC 300-499 level) for a Bachelors Degree in Accounting or having at least three (3) years of experience as an accountant or equivalent, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ( GAAP ).
