Position Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for general accounting functions, including assisting the Accounting Manager, Director of Finance, and Chief Financial Officer in the financial statement close process. The key objectives of this position are to ensure integrity and accuracy of financial data and to assist in providing this data to management in a timely manner to facilitate decision making.
The candidate must maintain the strictest confidentiality to protect the company’s financial and other information. The successful candidate must be able to take ownership of all responsibilities, be proactive and creative in solving problems, demonstrate ability to make sound business and accounting decisions and have a strong desire to grow professionally. The candidate must also be flexible to accept new responsibilities and face challenges with confidence.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Perform daily accounting tasks and support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Prepare journal entries, reconcile cash accounts, and maintain accurate account balances within the general ledger.
- Assist with annual reviews, tax filings, forecasting, and preparation of key financial metrics.
- Ensure compliance with sales/use tax, personal/property tax, and other government reporting requirements.
- Maintain fixed asset sub-ledger, including tracking additions, disposals, depreciation, and like-kind exchanges.
- Collaborate with departments such as payroll, receivables, purchasing, and cash applications to ensure accurate and timely financial data.
- Lead credit card administration, customer incentive preparation, and interface with banks via online systems.
- Uphold internal accounting controls and assist with ad hoc projects as needed.
- Administer our in-house expense reporting, including the review of expense reports to ensure compliance with Company Policy.
- Prepare Account Analyses for assigned Accounts.
- Prepare/Update Process Narratives
To be qualified for this position, you must possess the following:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration
- 3+ years’ of accounting experience
- CPA preferred, but not required
- Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel
- Great Plains experience preferred particularly with Fixed Assets
- Report Writer (Oracle) preferred
- Strong analytical and time management skills
- Transportation knowledge is a plus
- Professional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast paced environment with strong attention to detail
