The Accounting Analyst is responsible for supporting the integrity of financial data through hands-on execution of reconciliations, grant tracking, journal entries, and invoice preparation. This role ensures that restricted grant funds are properly recorded, monitored, and invoiced, while also helping maintain timely and accurate financial records. The Accounting Analyst plays a key role in grant compliance, POS reconciliation, and audit preparation.
Primary Responsibilities:
Support the mission and vision of Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan, Inc.
Perform work in a safe manner observing all Goodwill safety policies/procedures.
Perform duties and interact with all Goodwill team members, clients, and customers in a professional manner.

Grants & Restricted Revenue
Download payroll reports and enter hours into grant tracking spreadsheets.
Perform monthly grant reclasses for HUD, NMCAA, MSHDA, VA programs, and other funders.
Enter expenses into grant trackers and ensure alignment with the general ledger.
Gather and organize receipts and backup documentation.
Prepare and submit invoices and billing packets to funders (e.g., Tungsten, NMCAA).
Support quarterly invoicing and reporting (e.g., MSHDA FSR uploads).
Set up new grant tracking systems as new awards are received.
Make adjustments as requested by the Accounting Manager or CFO.
Accounts Receivable
Monthly Rental, Ecommerce Invoicing.
Download and organize POS reports from Counterpoint for 9+ stores.
Match daily store sales to bank activity and NetSuite entries.
Identify and resolve discrepancies in POS uploads or banking transactions.
Record monthly Grants, Pledges, and Donations.
Audit and reconcile NetSuite vs. Virtuous donor revenue monthly.
Bank Reconciliations
Perform bank reconciliations of multiple bank accounts.
Match miscellaneous transactions and reconcile monthly activity.
Journal Entries & General Ledger
Prepare recurring monthly journal entries.
Assist in month-end close tasks as assigned.
Maintain documentation to support all entries.
Balance Sheet reconciliation.
Contracts, Agreements, and Insurance
Manage all contracts.
Upload all Contracts into Contract Book.
Assist with annual insurance renewal and claims.
Audit & Financial Meetings
Assist in preparation for annual audit and provide requested documentation.
Participate in finance team meetings and 1:1s.
Support grant meetings and provide updated trackers or insights.
Assist in preparation for annual audit and provide requested documentation.
Annual physical asset inventory.
Capital projects analysis.
Monthly Depreciation and Capitalization.
Budgeting and Forecasting of fixed assets.
ASC 842 maintenance and year-end recording.
Other Duties as Assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 2-4 years of professional accounting experience, preferably with exposure to grants administration and fund accounting.
- Demonstrated experience with grant tracking, restricted revenue management, and preparing invoices and billing packets for public and private funders (e.g., HUD, MSHDA, VA, NMCAA).
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions for complex tracking and reconciliation tasks.
- Experience using accounting software; familiarity with NetSuite is highly preferred.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and projects with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills, with experience performing bank reconciliations and maintaining documentation to support journal entries and audits.
- Clear and effective communication skills for internal and external correspondence, including working with team members, clients, and external funders.
- Ability to analyze, identify, and resolve discrepancies in reconciliations, POS data, and donor records.
- Experience supporting annual audits and preparing documentation for financial reviews.
- Understanding of budget processes, fixed asset management, and capital project analysis is an asset.
