Widener University is currently seeking applications for an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology - Tenure Track in the College of Health and Human Services, to start in the Fall of 2025. This ten-month position is a core faculty position in our graduate level Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) program. We are a generalist clinical program and our faculty represents a diverse array of theoretical orientations. We encourage applications from candidates representing any theoretical orientations who, in addition to their areas of individual scholarly/clinical specialty, can teach core courses in a generalist clinical psychology curriculum (e.g., foundational courses, statistics/research methods, intervention, assessment, diversity and multicultural theory). We welcome applications from candidates who would also bring specific expertise in the array of areas typical to clinical programs. All candidates should be prepared to demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, as well as how this understanding is woven into their work.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Essential duties:

Teaching

  • Teach 4 courses per year in doctoral level clinical psychology program, including developing syllabi, learning objectives, assignments and rubrics, examinations, other course materials, and managing Canvas course site to support courses.
  • Demonstrate effectiveness in teaching and student assessment; use faculty development opportunities and teacher effectiveness tools to improve teaching.
  • Collaborate with faculty in ongoing curriculum development.
  • Demonstrate competency in knowledge and skills in teaching as evidenced by supervisor, peer, and student evaluations.
  • Supervise/chair 2-4 dissertations per year, providing support throughout the research/writing process for doctoral students; serve as dissertation committee member for 3-4 students per year
  • Maintain regular office hours; guide or support students who reach out for assistance; identify students who are struggling and need extra attention or support to be successful (use email, phone or other means of communication).

Scholarship/Practice

  • Engage in scholarly work related to area(s) of interest.
  • Contribute to scholarship through presentations and/or publications in peer-reviewed journals

Service

  • Attend all university academic events as required in faculty handbook
  • Attend all University, College and Program faculty meetings.
  • Participate in student recruitment activities; assist with applicant admission file reviews and on-campus/on-line applicant admission interviews.
  • Provide administrative oversight to students who choose to participate in one of our joint degree programs.
  • Serve as academic advisor and/or mentor for 12-15 students in doctoral program; provide advising as appropriate to student organizations.
  • Serve as mentor to new faculty members or adjunct faculty.
  • Participate in professional activities and service to the University, School, community by participating in faculty governance/committee work as assigned/elected.
  • Engage in service to the profession via membership in professional organizations, participation in professional conferences and professional/community-based service activities.

Secondary responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical supervision to doctoral students as needed and as appropriate.
  • Provide faculty support to separately accredited doctoral internship program integrated into doctoral program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

Required:

  • Psy.D. or Ph.D. in clinical or counseling psychology. ABD candidates may be considered if the doctoral degree will be completed by August 2025.
  • Demonstrated commitment to graduate education.
  • PA license as a psychologist. Supervision toward licensure can be provided to qualified applicants who have completed all other Pennsylvania requirements for licensure as a psychologist.
  • Clear evidence of scholarly potential. Position is not limited by area of research specialization.
  • Evidence of clear integration of issues related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging into clinical work, research, and/or teaching

Preferred:

  • Teaching experience in Psychology in higher education
  • Experience providing clinical supervision
