Assistant Construction Controller

We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our growing commecial general contracting team . This key leadership role oversees day-to-day accounting operations, including payroll, accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), project reporting, and month-end close. Youll support strategic financial initiatives, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and mentor a high-performing teamall while positioning yourself for growth into Controller or CFO-level roles.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and perform month-end close, journal entries, and financial statement preparation.
- Oversee bank reconciliations and key GL accounts (prepaids, payroll, etc.).
- Supervise payroll processing and ensure timely tax remittance and journal entries.
- Manage integration of new projects and Sage paperless transactions.
- Maintain and reconcile fixed asset schedules and equipment utilization tracking.
- Prepare and review Work-In-Progress (WIP) schedules to ensure revenue accuracy.
- Allocate insurance accruals to appropriate projects.
- Assist the CFO with audit preparation and special financial reporting projects.
- Provide leadership and support to accounting staff, promoting a collaborative culture.
- Contribute to the evaluation and implementation of accounting software systems and process improvements.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field (CPA, CMA, or CCIFP certification preferred).
- 5+ years of senior-level accounting experience in the commercial onstruction industry .
- Solid understanding of GAAP and construction cost accounting principles.
- Proficiency with accounting systems and cross-platform integrations (Sage experience preferred).
- Strong analytical, reconciliation, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with software implementation and operational rollouts is a plus.
