Senior Analyst, Financial Planning and Analysis

Role summary:
This dynamic role is designed for a proactive individual who will partner with various divisions across the company to drive financial insights and effective decision making. This Senior Financial Analyst will be responsible for the capacity models (vendor and headcount) for certain business divisions, participating in the variance analysis for the monthly management package, as well as monthly forecasts and the annual budget. The role reports directly to the Senior Manager, FP&A.

This position will work from athenahealths headquarters located in Boston, MA or Remote US.

Team summary:
The FP&A team is responsible for delivering financial insights and strategic guidance that support informed decision making across the organization. This team collaborates across business units to optimize resource allocation, monitor performance metrics, and ensure financial goals are met. They play a crucial role in shaping the financial strategy and supporting overall business success.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage capacity models, including vendor and headcount analyses, to support multiple business areas.

  • Analyze key performance drivers and assess actual results versus budget/forecast to inform strategic decisions.

  • Prepare and review monthly and quarterly metrics, scorecards, and variance analysis for management reporting.

  • Support the annual budget and monthly forecast processes by leveraging advanced modeling techniques and tools.

  • Collaborate with business owners and senior leaders to conduct project costing and return on investment studies, driving strategic financial initiatives.

  • Create and enhance financial models for product lines, cost centers, and companies.

Additional Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of presentations for the CEO/CFO, Executive Leadership Team, and Board of Directors.

  • Become proficient in the use of the companys budgeting, forecasting, and reporting systems, including Anaplan and the general ledger Oracle.

  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives across financial reporting and analysis functions.

  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and research in response to evolving business needs.

Expected Education & Experience:

  • 25 years of progressive finance experience with a focus on financial planning and analysis.

  • Bachelors degree in a related field; an MBA is a plus.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, primarily Excel, with advanced modeling skills.

  • Knowledge of Oracle and/or Anaplan is advantageous.

  • Solid understanding of finance and accounting principles along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with strong organizational and analytical skills.
