The Controller is a results-driven professional responsible for the financial administration of the company. The role brings excellence to M. Gale’s financial practices with important collaboration with the Leadership Team in developing the company’s long-term strategic growth plan. The role reports to the Vice President and supervises the Bookkeeper & Office Manager.
M. Gale is on a path to continued rapid growth and the Controller plays a vital role in financial monitoring, reporting, planning and budget forecasting. In addition, the Controller works to develop new tools to ensure appropriate internal controls, streamlined accounting and financial systems and data analysis of trends to recommend action for optimal results and efficiency.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Operations
- Oversee and manage daily accounting functions, including general ledger, payroll, and accounts receivable and payable
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements for internal reporting and planning
- Ensure adherence to relevant laws and regulations, including tax compliance
- Develop and implement internal controls to protect assets and ensure accuracy of financial data
- Analyze data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement
- Supervise, train and coach finance team members; right now, this is the Bookkeeper & Office Manager
- Assist with internal and external audits, in collaboration with outsourced partner(s)
- Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure liquidity
- Manage client contracts and expense tracking for evaluation processes
- Manage business vendor relationships: negotiate contracts and agreements with vendors
- Human Resource oversight: Act as liaison to contracted HR support, while helping to manage the hiring process and onboarding process for team members, and regulatory reporting
Business Strategic Planning and Implementation
- Collaborate with the Leadership Team to create and monitor budgets, forecasts, and financial plans
- Participate in company annual planning and help mold the financial reporting methods and systems to track and report accountability dashboards for long-term sustainability and planned growth
- Work with the team to monitor and track financial progress toward goals and measure analytics
Business Development
- Contribute to building relationships on behalf of the company
- Contribute to thought leadership presence by authoring and contributing to marketing initiatives, from a financial and M. Gale team member perspective
- Regular coordination with the sales team and consulting services team throughout the sales and client delivery process, for contracting and accounts receivable activities that lead with the client experience in mind
Consulting and Client Services
- Provide strategic financial insight, preferably from a nonprofit lens to consultant team members when needed to inform client work and deliverables
- Collaborate with team members on the development, execution and monitoring of business systems on behalf of the company
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field (Master's preferred); Professional certification(s)
- Experience: at least 7-10 years financial administrative experience

- Skilled user of technical business systems, of computer and software products including Salesforce, QuickBooks, Office 365, and interest in advancing systems and technology to develop innovative corporate operations
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evening and weekend work; travel as required to ensure client satisfaction, market presence and professional development
PREFERRED SKILLS
- 5+ years’ experience working in a professional services firm
- Evidence of continued professional career development
- Member of professional organizations relevant to career advancement
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel independently
- Keyboarding Skills
- Occasional Light Lifting 10-15lbs
- Must have dependable transportation for client meetings/events and other job-related activities
