Director of Accounting

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Director of Accounting to lead our accounting department. The ideal candidate will bring 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role, with a strong background in the transportation or logistics industry . This role will oversee all aspects of financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance while leading a team of accounting professionals to support the company's financial goals and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead, manage, and mentor the accounting team to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, month-end and year-end close processes.

  • Develop and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards.

  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, and tax reporting functions.

  • Collaborate with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning initiatives.

  • Ensure timely preparation of financial statements and provide insightful financial analysis to support business decision-making.

  • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions.

  • Evaluate and implement accounting systems and tools to improve efficiency and reporting capabilities.

  • Stay current with industry trends, changes in accounting standards, and regulatory requirements, particularly those affecting transportation and logistics.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA strongly preferred).

  • Minimum 10 years of accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role.

  • Proven experience in the transportation or logistics industry is required.

  • Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.

  • Strong leadership and team development skills.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with fleet management accounting and cost allocation.

  • Knowledge of freight, warehousing, or logistics-specific financial metrics.

  • Familiarity with M&A due diligence or integration processes a plus.
