Director of Accounting
Job Summary:We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Director of Accounting to lead our accounting department. The ideal candidate will bring 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role, with a strong background in the transportation or logistics industry . This role will oversee all aspects of financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance while leading a team of accounting professionals to support the company's financial goals and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:Lead, manage, and mentor the accounting team to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, month-end and year-end close processes.
Develop and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards.
Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, and tax reporting functions.
Collaborate with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning initiatives.
Ensure timely preparation of financial statements and provide insightful financial analysis to support business decision-making.
Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions.
Evaluate and implement accounting systems and tools to improve efficiency and reporting capabilities.
Stay current with industry trends, changes in accounting standards, and regulatory requirements, particularly those affecting transportation and logistics.
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA strongly preferred).
Minimum 10 years of accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
Proven experience in the transportation or logistics industry is required.
Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
Strong leadership and team development skills.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills.
Experience with fleet management accounting and cost allocation.
Knowledge of freight, warehousing, or logistics-specific financial metrics.
Familiarity with M&A due diligence or integration processes a plus.
