Job Description


Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Non-Profit Senior Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in corporate accounting, financial analysis, and governmental accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal teams to support budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of government reports and compliance documents.
  • Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions and ensure data integrity.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff as needed.
  • Responsible for month end close procedures, including developing and maintaining reports and files on account balances
  • Maintain general ledger accounts, create monthly close journal entries, and complete ad hoc requests as assigned in a timely manner
  • Prepare complete balance sheet and income statement account analyses, with detailed explanations, in a timely manner
  • Prepare monthly reconciliation of revenue accounts related to each government contract
  • Propose and record adjusting entries with appropriate supporting documentation
  • Prepare monthly bank and credit card account reconciliation, propose, and record the proper adjusting journal entries
  • Review activity related to the companys specific purpose funds

Payroll:

  • Review and reconcile federal and state quarterly tax returns
  • Manage payment submittal for payroll benefits
  • Record payroll journal entries Contracts and Grants
  • Knowledgeable with submitting claims and assist Grant Administrator staff within Finance dept with claim submission and recording as needed
  • Communicate with funding agencies in absence of Grant Administrator as needed

Requirements

  • B.A. in accounting required.
  • 5 years of experience in accounting or related function.
  • Detail and deadline-oriented self-starter.
  • Knowledge of project or grant accounting preferred.
  • Proven, solid software skills and experience with automated accounting systems; QuickBooks experience preferred.
  • Highly organized, proven problem-solving skills and excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of accounting rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
