Our client, the American Astronomical Association, a prestigious scientific association in DC whose mission is “to enhance and share humanity’s scientific understanding of the universe as a diverse and inclusive astronomical community”, has an immediate opening for a full-time Senior Accountant. The position is located in their DC office on K Street. Vaccination is required. The salary range is $82,000 per year with possible overtime opportunities.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
The Senior Accountant position will support the Chief Financial and Operating Officer in all aspects of account payables and receivables and general ledger including:
- Preparation of journal entries to record bank activity
- Balance sheet reconciliation
- Reconciliation of online store inventory with the fulfillment service and deferred subscription revenue
- Assist the Financial Analyst in the reconciliation of the due to and from S&T and all prepaid accounts
- Management of the skytelinvoice mailbox and online store inventory
- Ensure all inventory imports are accurate before entering into Solomon
- Prepare check requests on a weekly basis in accordance with AAS standards including sales tax remittance
- Annual preparation of the 1099 form
- Pay all invoices in a timely manner
- Manage payment of sales taxes from the magazine and store with all the states in which we have a tax nexus
- Other responsibilities as assigned
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Bachelor’s degree, CPA preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with double-entry accounting, preferably in a non-profit or government organization
- Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
- Knowledge of state sales tax reporting and tax remittance
- Experience managing merchandise inventory
- Ability to read/interpret financial reports and follow established accounting procedures with accuracy and care required
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in Excel and MS Word
- Familiarity with the iMIS membership system preferred
- Ability to execute responsibilities with light supervision
- Ability to meet insurance requirements for cash handling required
