Our client, American Astronomical Association, a prestigious scientific association in DC whose mission is “to enhance and share humanity’s scientific understanding of the universe as a diverse and inclusive astronomical community”, has an immediate opening for a Financial Analyst and Payroll Administrator. The position is 35 hours per week with four days from their DC office on K Street and one day working from home (or all five days could be in the office if preferred). Vaccination is required. Some local and out-of-state travel is required.


The Financial Analyst and Payroll Administrator supporting the Chief Financial Officer in all aspects of  accounting, reporting and payroll support for the organization including:

  • Preparation of journal entries to record bank activity
  • Balance sheet reconciliation
  • Posting iMIS batches
  • Reconciliation of PayPal and credit card activity
  • Monthly bank reconciliations
  • Payroll preparation
  • Quarterly reconciliation of 941
  • Maintenance of payroll records
  • Maintenance of central contract master list
  • Retaining executed contracts according to policy
  • Assisting the CFOO in writing contracts for professional services
  • Maintenance of asset inventory according to policy


  • Bachelor’s degree, CPA preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience with double entry accounting, preferably in a non-profit or government organization
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Minimum of seven years experience in Payroll management, ADP system experience preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Fair Labor Standard Act
  • Ability to read/interpret financial reports and to follow established accounting procedures with accuracy and care required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in Excel and MS Word
  • Demonstrated knowledge with MS Dynamics SL
  • Familiarity with iMIS membership system preferred
  • Ability to execute responsibilities with light supervision
